As
a newbie or an established web designer, there are basically six mistakes you
must avoid when designing a website.
I
call them tiny mistakes but the expertise attach to a web design depends
entirely on these tiny mistakes. The main reason being that they can distract
sites visitors from focusing on the message and start wondering who did such an
absurd design. It literally destroys web designers’ reputation.
Here,
they are:
·
Negative use of
font style on the same page. Most web designers make this mistake all too
often. If you look at the internet today, you’ll be able to point out hundreds
maybe even thousands of these websites.
You
find people using Arial, Times New Roman, and Jester on the same page.
It’s
confusing to a site visitor.
What
you want to do is choose a font style for the main headline and sub-headlines
and stick to that so that where there’s a headline it means it’s a headline.
However,
your body text could also go with one font style.
·
Negative use
of font sizes on the same page.
This
is where it really gets annoying.
You
see people using 72-point font for their body text and when you visit their
website, you just have two words to go home with.
Don’t
laugh, the earlier you start running away from these tiny mistakes, the better
for your business.
Basically,
your headlines can go for a 24- 36 point size and 14-18 for your sub headlines,
while your body text should be around 10, 11-12.
·
Link colours.
This also is very important because if a site visitor starts thinking all your
highlighted texts are links, then you in for a real trouble.
If
your link colour is blue, be consistent with that colour all through the pages.
·
Font
colour. If you are designing a
website that has anything to children,
then you are permitted to use as many colours as you can to make it interesting
to them but if it’s not involving children, you have to choose one font colour
for your headlines, one for your sub headline and leave your text black on a
white background.
·
Putting emphasis on a word. Look no further
than this report you are reading right now. The above word emphasis, I simply
use bold and if you check this report, you’ll find out that it’s the same thing
till the end. So be consistent with what you use. If you are using bold just
like I did above, make certain that it is bold all through. You can also use
italics but make sure it’s one all through. Either bold or italics.
The
above mistakes may sound tiny or irrelevant but your reputation as a web
designer can depend on them, so take note.
Most
clients do not know how to publish their content so you’re going to be doing
this and as such, you must be careful how you go about that.

Each
job you do has the power of bringing you more within a very short period of
time.
That
is: whatever job you complete will speak for you but there’s a trick to it.
Just
leave your website link at the bottom of each website you build as the web
designer.
Of
course you must have your very own website before setting out to get jobs. I
don’t see any reason why you won’t have your own website where you are selling
your service.
However,
not all clients will agree to that tip above so you must first contact them and
discuss about it before placing your link there.
